Armani democratizes the double-breasted jacket

MILAN — In a week normally reserved for men's fashion, the June edition of Milan Fashion Week closed Monday with a mélange of men's and women's previews for next spring and summer. President of the Italian national fashion chamber, Carlo Capasa, said the shift is a response to "the challenges posed by the globalized and fluid dimensions of fashion," adding that the arrival of women's collections reflects "Milan's central importance in the fashion week world." Anchoring the 64 collections shown over four days was Milan calendar first-timer Stella McCartney and Finnish label Aalto for women and Armani, Fendi and No....

LOS ANGELES — George Clooney's Hollywood career spans more than three decades, with memorable roles including fighting vampires, playing Batman and drifting through space in "Gravity." But Clooney's other accomplishments, including directing, screenwriting and activism, led to him becoming the latest recipient of the American Film Institute's Life Achievement Award. NEW YORK — The dinosaurs of "Jurassic Park" are many things. They are special-effects wonders. They are unruly house guests. And they are some of the biggest, most foot-stomping metaphors around. Since Steven Spielberg's 1993 original, the dinos of "Jurassic Park" — many of them not light on their feet to be begin with — have been weighed down with meanings that sometimes shift movie to movie. If they look a touch tired in the latest "Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom," it could be from all the allegorical baggage they've been carrying. Twenty-five years ago, the dinosaurs — wondrous and horrifying...

'Incredibles 2' crushes animation record with $180 million

Jun 18, 2018

LOS ANGELES — The combined powers of superheroes, the Pixar brand and a drought of family-friendly films helped "Incredibles 2" become the best animated opening of all time, the biggest PG-rated launch ever and the 8th highest film launch overall. Disney estimated Sunday that the film earned $180 million in its first weekend in North American theaters — far surpassing industry analysts' loftiest expectations which had the film pegged for a $120 to $140 million debut. The previous animation record-holder was another Pixar sequel, "Finding Dory," which had a $135 million launch in 2016. It was Disney's live-action "Beauty and...
